The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, scheduled from January 13 to February 26 in Prayagraj, will use advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make the event safer and easier to manage for the expected 45 crore devotees. The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced AI-powered cameras, chatbots, and other technologies to ensure smooth operations throughout the Mela.
A major feature of AI at the Mela will be crowd management. Over 2,700 CCTV cameras will be set up at important locations around the Mela grounds. These cameras will use AI to monitor the crowds and give accurate crowd counts, with an expected 95% accuracy rate. This will help prevent overcrowding in busy areas and ensure safety. AI will also help authorities manage the crowd by predicting and controlling crowd density.
Another AI tool is the Kumbh Sah'AI'yak chatbot. This chatbot will help pilgrims by providing real-time information, such as directions, cultural insights, and information on parking and accommodation. It supports several languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, and Bengali. The chatbot will be available 24/7 through the Maha Kumbh app and WhatsApp, ensuring that people from different language backgrounds can easily get the help they need.
AI will also play a big role in security. AI-powered cameras will be used to detect suspicious behavior and other security threats. There will be a "Khoya Paaya Kendra" (Lost and Found Center), which uses AI to help find lost people and reunite them with their families quickly. Social media platforms like Facebook and X will also be used to help in locating lost individuals.
To manage the large event more efficiently, the government has created a new district called Mahakumbh Nagar. AI will be used not only to manage the crowd and improve safety but also to make the event more organized and efficient.
The traditional religious groups called akharas, which are part of the Mela, are also using technology. They are creating digital systems to keep records and improve their operations.
With AI bringing these improvements, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will offer a better and safer experience for millions of pilgrims, combining technology with the spiritual and cultural traditions of the event.
